Alive

img_7184

I’m alive friends.  I know I’ve been so MIA this summer and early fall.  I over planned our summer activities (typical me), and then I never had time to write or recover.  SIGH.  Also very typical of me.

Lots of fun things have happened to our blair family this summer (one announcement to come out next monday).  i changed jobs, i recently lived a life of decluttering (read this book twice!) and i got sick like 4 times in a row b/c of c.

i’m still sick now which is a total bummer, but as i settle into my new work place, i will definitely be back to normal posting schedule SOON!!

halloween is right around the corner and so are the holidays!!  so so so excited for all of that fun.  c is seriously at the CUTEST stage these days and i can’t for her to experience trick or treating, thanksgiving, christmas, etc.  EEK!!

Mommy Mondays: Best Ways to Celebrate Holiday Break with your Toddler

oh my, can you believe it’s already the END of 2016???  i cannot.  i cannot believe time flew by so quickly and we are about to ring in 2017.  wow wow WOW.

with winter break in full bloom, make sure to plan ahead and make the most of each day.  here are some fun ideas of what to do with your toddler!

  1. make a winter break schedule.  whether it’s to wake up, eat breakfast and go to the park each morning.  helping to set a WB routine will help get your little ones on a schedule they can anticipate and look forward to.  it will also help out mamas who aren’t sure how to fill in the day. some examples of routine activities (that you can always mix up): park, nature walk (to pick up rocks, leaves and cool objects), reading time, artist’s corner (drawing, painting, etc), library, and play dates.
  2. look up local winter activities that are unique to your city!  there are many choirs, plays, light ceremonies, etc at your local city center or main shopping mall.  these events are free to attend and always a fun way to celebrate the season with your little ones.
  3. ice skating!  santa monica and downtown LA, have festive rinks for kids of all ages and many activities near the area for you to grab dinner before or after.
  4. set up a few play dates with friends with a fun theme!  kids can decorate or create holiday crafts while mommies get a moment to relax and chit chat with friends.  some fun themes: making ornaments, gingerbread houses, or snow globes, baking cookies for gifts, etc.
  5. winter cleaning!  have your kids help clean out their toy boxes and closets with items they no longer wear/use and make a big trip to a donation center.
  6. volunteer at a local shelter or do something for the community.  even bringing your old worn coats and toys to a shelter would bring a lot of festive cheer to those receiving those once loved items.
  7. plan a few big day trips and/or staycations.  there are so many things in our cities that you don’t notice but tourists come hundreds of miles to see.  pick a community and make a fun day of it (visiting museums, restaurants, play areas, color-me-mine stores, etc).  you can even pick a fun, historic hotel to stay in or rent an airbnb near the beach for a few days of fun.  just sleeping elsewhere or spending the day out of your own comfort zone will make you feel like you’ve gone on a full vacay!  (one budget friendly tip?  camp out in your own backyard with hot dogs, s’mores and silly ghost stories!)
  8.  pick a few nights during the break for fun theme nights!  movie night with popcorn, pajama day, make your own pizza night, gingerbread houses, write letters to santa, make a list of resolutions for next year, etc.

hope these little ideas help you and your winter break!  i know i always procrastinate and then end up doing nothing, so breaking the days up really helps me take advantage of this time with Charlotte!

xoxo  Happy 2016 and Holidays Everyone!

Family Photoshoot (part deux)

i’m not model, but i love a good photoshoot.  esp when it’s with my family and the most awesome photographer EVERRRRR (Marinne Andres).  our family took a second photoshoot session b/c it rained during our first one.  we weren’t as prepared for these b/c well…it’s hard having a toddler.  trying to even shower is a challenge on the weekends so…go figure we’re a little rough around the edges in this shoot. ;P

Weekend Recap and Photodump

This past weekend was packed!  Not only was it a three day weekend, but it was Valentine’s Day AND my friend’s 30th Birthday Bash.  Whew~

SOOO many fun moments and memories that I can’t wait to share with ya’ll~~ Soo…I’m pretty stoooopid and I accidentally deleted all my pictures from January and February this year =(  whyyyyyyy~~ I have no nice SLR photos and just a few from my phone to share. =(  *tear *  Markel bought me a portable hard drive for Valentine’s Day (romantic right?!) and well…I messed up the transfer process and ended up deleting my pictures =(

Sad…but I’m grateful I at least have these babies from the weekend to share!

Friday Night Markel and I celebrated Valentine’s Day early.  He made the most delicious meal and we had a quiet meal to catch up, talk and just enjoy this last Vday together before Baby Blair makes her arrival.  The best part of Valentine’s Day for me is that Markel always goes above and beyond to make it special.  One year he decorated my apartment and room, wrapped a necklace and also made the most AMAZING surf and turf meal.  Last year he surprised me with roses and dinner reservations to a new place we hadn’t tried (we’re creatures of habit and tend to go to the same places).  This year Markel had been traveling back to back weeks and still came home to make an amazing steak dinner (what i had been craving), opened a bottle of wine (which i only got to smell =T) and just focused the night on us.  He always makes me feel so special on these holidays~~~~ I’m a very lucky lady. ^^

wpid-img_2610

Oh and what is this below you ask??  This was one of the last pairs of shoes that fit my feet. #__#  I was in a meeting with my boss and when I looked down I saw that my shoe had split open like I was a hobo!!  =(  WTF.  BOTH my shoes were split open but my left foot was worse.  For some reason my left foot is also more swollen than my right.  *shrug *

Over the last month my feetsies have been fitting in fewer and fewer pairs of shoes.  Besides these espadrille flats from Gap, Flip Flops and Mike’s slippers were about all that I could squeeze my swollen feet into.  UGH ANOTHER fun part of pregnancy.

OK back to the meeting…when I saw my shoes were split open i carefully put my feet together in hopes that no one saw my split open shoes and bee-lined it to my office.  In there I tried to macgyver my shoes together by bringing the strings together below (fail), stapling it shut (fail) and then FINALLY~~~ I found a hot glue gun with JUST enough glue for both shoes (win!).  The rest of the day I made sure not to walk around too much and safely made my way home.  *sigh *

SO, what is the first thing Markel and I had to do Saturday?  BUY ME SOME SHOES!  I’ll make a long long sad story short at the shoe store and jump to the conclusion that my feet are an entire shoe size bigger.  To be honest, I’m probablly 1.5 shoe sizes bigger but I was way too much in denial to go there.  I got one pair of nice flats for work/nice events and one pair of berkenstocks.  The same pair of shoes that I had been adamant about never buying. =*(

wpid-20150212_094401.jpg

Sorry that was just a sad story about my feet.  NOW moving on to my fun fun weekend!!

Saturday Markel and I got to spend the day with General Byon who had come down for a short 36 hour trip.  We ate our hearts out and then accompanied GB to get an impromptu tattoo!!  Just BEING there made me feel like I had gotten one.  LOL  how sad huh?  I’m so risk and pain averse there is no way I can get one.  BUT I really love tattoos and seeing them on other people.

Saturday evening we celebrated a very special lady and her 30th Birthday~~~ xoxo  This is going to be such a big and beautiful year for joycie, can’t wait for all the happiness and celebration this year will bring!!

Sunday (our last day with GB), we went to Pine and Crane in Silverlake for lunch.  I have to say, the second time around was better than the first.  I’m not sure why since we ordered the same things, but the second time just tasted better.  weird right?

The rest of the day was spent shopping and lounging with Markel.  The weather was super hot and it was really nice to take a slow day with my partner in crime.  we took lucy on walks as well and the little one was just PASSED OUT most of the weekend.  gf can’t handle too much excitment. lol

wpid-20150215_194946.jpg

Monday~~ a day off that i REALLY REALLY needed~ dee and i tried Sqirl in silverlake.  I had been DYING to try this place and well…it didn’t live up to the hype.  The brioche toast was delicious but the pesto bowl was…meh.  Sweet Lattes by G&B coffee was a total hit though.  love their sweet lattes!

wpid-20150216_095412.jpg

The rest of monday I slowly picked up around the apartment, watched a sickening amount of TV and tried to fully enjoy my last day of the long weekend.  Since I’m trying to save all my vacation and sick days for my upcoming maternity leave, I haven’t taken time off since I got preggers. =*(  I REALLY need to take a break from work and take a weekend trip with Markel.  Hopefully for our 22nd Year Anniversary in April I’ll get a chance to do that! =D

————————————————————————————–

Below are Valentine’s dessert and meals that I tried to make over the weekend.  Nothing really quite turned out well…but at least I tried?  LOL  I normally love doing stuff for the holidays and this weekend was the first time I felt normal again (or pre-preggers).  Too bad my skills in the kitchen haven’t improved or become more motherly.  EEK.  Luckily ugly food still tastes good. =)

This past week went by incredibly fast.  Work has been INSANE and my nights have been incredibly restless.  BLEH.  I’m SOO looking forward to the weekend and the NOTHINGNESS that Markel and I have planned.  We blocked out all of saturday morning/afternoon for errands just personal time together.  The past few months have been such a blur with obligations, it’ll be really nice to have an unplanned day this weekend and then spend a few meals with friends and family. <3

Happy Friday Ya’ll!! xoxo

Christmas Tree Adventures

This past Sunday Markel and I went out to Home Depot in Marina del Rey and bought our FIRST real tree together!! =)  I grew up with a fake tree and really loved the convenience of it (no watering, no needle mess, lights came with it…etc).  Mike grew up with real trees so he always thought it was WEIRD that I wouldn’t consider a real one…lol  i can be a bit stubborn…

but ANYWAY, i finally woke up and realized… a real tree would be a nice new change to our cozy apartment.  blame it on my nesting or just the need for change…but everytime i look at our new tree i get fun butterflies and a warm fuzzy feeling. =)

Here is markel below with two options.  he was SUPER picky about the tree since it had to be “JUST RIGHT” for our place. =)  It was fun to see him scouting all the noble firs and comparing them with ones people had in their hands.  lol  We wouldn’t have minded a larger tree but there was nothing awesome left~ so we chose a tiny 3 footer this time.

image

When we got home we decorated our entire apartment with christmas cheer, scents and fun.  Over the last 6+ years markel and i have collected ornaments together.  usually 1 per year that we’ve been together but there have also been a few extras that are meaningful additions~~ This is the first year where we used all of our collected ornaments + some traditional red and gold ones.  I absolutely love the way our little tree turned out and I’m so excited for the holidays to arrive!

If you can see in the middle, that’s our first family of ornaments. =D  adorable~~~ Thanks Nansie!!

image

At the end of our holiday decorating, we (by that i mean mike) cooked the most delicious meal of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and brussel sprouts.  YUMMMMMMMMMMMM

image

I’m so glad it’s Friday today.  I love the weekend and all the wonderful plans ahead. =D  This weekend markel and i are headed to veegaaaas!!  last few wiiild times ahead <3

Christmas with the Blairs

For the past couple of years, the Blairs have been celebrating Christmas at Markel’s Big Bro’s home in West Covina.  It’s a big brunch and morning where we open presents, hang out and spend time together. =)  Markel has a huge family and I absolutely love how loud and full of energy the home gets!  Four generations all under 1 roof. <3

Opening Presents!  I was so busy opening mine I forgot to take more pictures.  LOL

Lucy got presents too!!  Grandma Blair and I made her doggie bowls. <3  They are as big as her, but she absolutely loves them!

The gorgeous tree!

Such a wonderful day to celebrate with the Blairs. =)

Afterwards Markel and I saw ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ with the Kims (our neighbors).  That movie was a lot better than ‘Her’ in my opinion…  I totally recommend seeing it!  Leonard DiCaprio gives an awesome performance.

Christmas Eve

This was the first Christmas Markel and I spent together as Husband and Wife + the first year we weren’t with Family for Christmas Eve.  Sooo, we made up our OWN tradition!  We decided to have sushi for dinner and invited over our close friends who also live in our building.  The four of us feasted on delicious food, drank a little Champs to celebrate and then went to see Her in theatres.  It was such a lovely and low key evening, I can’t wait to make it a continuous tradition for us as we begin this amazing journey as Husband and Wife.

xo  Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas Eve and Christmas!

A Musical Note, Pinata and Party

We had a big 30th birthday bash for my boss last week and the decorations came out…PERFECTLY.  My other coworker did 99% of the decorations around the music note theme (she works in that department)~ and it made me want to copy it for another party!!

Here are the decorations below~~ the creme flags in the middle are a music sheet pattern.  SO CUTE.  The entire party was a white/black/cream color theme.

image

My bad pinwheels on the tables with catering from Fundamental in Westwood (SUCH GREAT FOOD).

image

Isn’t this sign so adorable??  The letters are made of a music sheet pattern and the little notes on the side add the perfect touch. <3

image

This was LITERALLY the only thing I contributed too.  Hanging notes and pinwheels.  I wouldn’t say these were “cute” or “crafty”…they just sorta added to the music theme that my talented coworker put together.

image

AND the FINALE~~~A MUSIC NOTE PINATA!!!  How incredibly adorable is this???  My coworker MADE IT from scratch!!!!  She put the pinata on top of music sheets that had the birthday song printed on it.  SO CLEVER, CRAFTY and freaking amazing.  She also made the little name sign on top of the cake. <3

image

We always try to celebrate each other at work whether it’s a birthday, a celebration, or a great life moment.    I love my job and the creative/loving team I work with.  This party is just one example of what we do for each other.  <3

Hawaii (Part V)

On our last full day of the trip~ my brother, his wife, Markel and I all dedicated it to a day of fun with Mama Chang.  It was her 60th birthday (which is HUGE in Korean Culture) and well…it was the first time in a long time we had been together.

we went paddle boarding in the morning, ate at waiola’s, had a huge lunch, and then went to a dinner cruise to top off the night <3

“Son in law” soup.  Although it’s not really called that…Korean mom’s give a hearty soup to their son in laws.  My mama always makes this one for Markel when he comes over.  SO DELIC.

(if you’ve never had it, takes like chicken noodle soup, but with just Cornish hen + you add rice)

And that’s how we ended our 10-day trip to Hawaii… Writing these posts makes me want to go back ASAP.  Especially to Maui.  That was hands down the best trip Markel and I have ever been on!

THINK PINK: Happy Valentine’s Day!

Man, this year V-day really snuck up on me.  I’m usually prepared with plans but this year…nada.  Work has been REALLY crazy, my  the wedding planning…blah.  So every spare moment I get I usually try to sleep or watch a show that I have in my crazy DVR cue.

Anyway, Valentine’s Day (for me) is a day of all pink, girlie everything,  and all adorable things.  Here is a fun picture collage (photodump really) of things I found online =)  (mainly pinterest)
